Not a Lash Extensions Fan? Here’s How to get Lash Extensions Results at Home!

Permanent lash extensions have gained so much popularity in recent years.

Just like Microblading did back in the 2016-2018, lash extensions are now on trend and a solution to have beautiful lashes all day long during 1-2 weeks before any retouching. Which come in handy for busy women, for a vacation trip or simply any person wainting this semi-permanent result.

As Makeup Artist and beauty professional, I have my own thoughts about lash extensions.

While I found them a good option for the most ocassiones, I also think that for some women/situations lash extension are just not the best option.

And in this article, I’m gonna share with you why I think this, and if you feel identified with my reasons, I’m gonna teach what to do instead to get lash extensions results without the negatives of lash extensions.

Why I don’t always recommend lash extensions

  • Finding a good lash technician can be tricky. While you can find a nice salon, with acreddited lash technicians, that doesnt necessarily mean that they will do a good job by selecting the right type and style of lashes for you. they probably will know how to apply the lashes and probably make them last long enough, but is always a probability that they won’t know what the best style for your eye shape, face shape and style overall. Not fatalistic, but realistic.

While mascara or false eyelashes can be easily removed or changed if you don’t like the style.

  • One you need a fill-in appointment, you really need it. It’s almost like an urgency. Why? As your eyelash extensions begin to fall out (which naturally happens due to your lashes’ natural growth cycle), you may start to notice gaps between your lashes. Many of them don’t shed at the same time or in the most even way, so it’s common to see an imbalance that can look uneven or patchy.
  • Expensive. The cost of lash extensions in the United States typically ranges from $100 to $300 for a full set, depending on factors like the salon location, the experience of the lash technician, and the type of lashes used (classic, hybrid, or volume).

Fill-in appointments—which are needed every 2 to 3 weeks—usually cost between $50 and $150 High-end salons in major cities like New York or Los Angeles may charge more, while smaller studios in suburban areas may offer lower prices
  • Can make your eyes look fallen, irritated or heavy. This also depends on the sensibility of each person, but sometimes lash tecnicians just add too much lashes in a ratio bigger than 1 natural lash for 3 extensions which will naturally make your eye look fallen, which most of us don’t want. We usually seek the opposite effect with makeup.

These are my reasons that me, as a makeup artist not a lash tecnician, do not ALWAYS recommend lash extensions. But let’s quickly enlist why and when I DO recommend lash extensions.

When is a good idea to get Lash Extensions

If you are always busy. If you are always at work without so much time to do your makeup, apply false lashes regularly and simply want a cute lashes look that its just there most of the days without effot, lash extensions can be a good idea for you.

When you are going to a trip or vacation. I do not like to spend time doing my lashes while my family are waiting for me to go all to the beach, or pool. Also, lash extensions are usually pool-beach-proof which means you can wear them without a problem and they won’t fall (of course, be cautions, like do not rub your lashes, and try to not submerge your face to protect your lash extensions or have more chances of them lasting longer)

When lashes money is not a problem. Let’s make it clear, lash extensions is a luxury, it’s expensive and I simply do not recommend it if you don’t have that extra $100-200 to splurge. But if you do have it, including the fill-in appointments money, go ahead!

Lash Extensions, while trendy, are not the only option for Everyday Beautiful Lashes.

If you found that lash extensions are not for you, here’s what you can do instead to get lash extension results at home!

1.Apply regular false eyelashes as lash extensions.

Did you know that you can find in any drugstore makeup store, false eyelashes in clusters, which have the effect as lash extensions, these look more natural and blend well with your natural lashes.

Plus you can always have your kit on hand to retouch without the need to schedule a fill-in appointment in a salon.

For example, this KISS lash clusters kit dont even need lash glue! Are self-adhsive you just apply them.

I have a step by step guide on how to apply false eyelashes in clusters to get lash extensions-like effect!

These also last if you use a special false eyelashes glue like this one here, is not a professional semipermanent glue, but also not the regular lash glue. Which consists on a bond and seal sytem.

2. Get a lash lifting

A lash lifting is also a service most salons offer and consist on curling your natural lashes semi-permanently which enhance your natural lashes without the need of lash extensions. This is a more natural approach to get fuller-looking lashes all day long without the need of lash extensions or even false eyelashes.

3. Apply Regular but shaped to you False eyelashes, just when you need them.

This is honestly my general approach when it comes to beauty and lashes. Most of the time I only wear lash extensions for special ocassions like travel/trips and I do false eyelashes for weekends or special events.

That way I do not wear lashes everyday, neither do I have to go to another beauty appointment every 2 weeks. But this is just my personal prefrence, also with the consideration that Im a makeup artist, so I know about lashes styles, how to apply false lashes easily in minutes etc.
