How to get glassy lips

One of the most important things to remember when creating glossy lips is that less is more.

You want to avoid overdoing it, or your lips will end up looking greasy.

Start by applying a small amount of lip balm to your lips.

This will help to create a smooth base for your gloss.

Next, apply a small amount of gloss to your lower lip, and then use your finger to spread it evenly across your lips.

Finally, apply a small amount of gloss to your upper lip, and then use a brush to blend it.

This will help to create a perfect, glossy finish.

Remember to keep your lips hydrated by drinking plenty of water and reapplying your gloss as needed. With these tips, you will have perfect, glossy lips in no time!

How to get glossy lips: Step 1. Exfoliate your lips

There are a few things to keep in mind when going for glossy lips.

The first is that you need to make sure your lips are exfoliated and hydrated before starting your makeup routine.

This will help the gloss adhere to your lips and also make them look more plump and smooth. An amazing lip scrub to exfoliate your lips and hydrate them at the same time is this one here with natural ingredients like coconut oil and avocado oil.

How to get glossy lips: Step 2. Choose the right gloss

Next, you need to choose a lip color that will complement your gloss.

We can style our glossy lips look with one of the following options:

  • Wearing lipstick underneath to add our desired color before making them look glossy
  • Wearing a lip gloss with color on it
  • No lipstick, and only use a lip gloss with sheer color
  • No lipstick underneath, and a clear lip gloss

My favorite lip gloss with color is this one from NYX, it includes lipstick and lip gloss in the same product, which is perfect if you want to get more coverage on your glossy lips.

And our top pick for a clear lip gloss is the Infallible Pro Plump Lip Gloss With Hyaluronic Acid.

Once you pick your glossy look and shade, it’s time for the next step. And ESSENTIAL.

Because even if you opt for bare lips and a clear lip gloss, there’s something we can’t skip for this tutorial. Lip liner.

How to get glossy lips: Step 3. Lip liner

Lip liner will help you create a clean and defined shape for your lips, which is essential for achieving the perfect glossy lip.

This lip liner needs to be similar to the color of your lipstick, lip gloss if is a color lip gloss or in a similar shade of your natural lips color if you are wearing a clear lip gloss.

The one that I’m using in this tutorial is the SHEGLAM velvet matte lip liner in this shade. I highly recommend that lip liner from sheglam, especially for the quality compared with the price of $2.99 or something like that. Check the price here.

I don’t love everything about sheglam, you can read more about my opinion on the beauty brand from shein in this post.

Once you have your lip color and gloss sorted out, it’s time to apply them.

Start by lining your lips with the lip liner, following the natural shape of your mouth.

If you want to make a fuller illusion effect on your lips, try the overlining technique.

This technique needs to be subtle, so it looks natural but still makes the effect of bigger lips.

I have a complete guide on how to correctly overline your lips to make them look fuller, even if you have very thin lips. Check the overlining lips tutorial here.

And then come back to this glossy lips guide.

How to get glossy lips: Step 4. Let’s add the color

Then, apply the lip color of your choice all over your lips.

Once that’s done, take your gloss and apply it in the center of your lips, working your way outwards.

You now have the perfect glossy lips.

And this is how it looks my nude glossy lips.

Below I’ll show more examples of how to wear glossy lips with different colors.

Just make sure to reapply your gloss every few hours to keep your lips looking shiny and plump all day long.

Do glossy lips look bigger?

Just by doing glossy lips, you are making your lips looking bigger by visual effect, yes!; however, if you want a fuller and bigger look you can overline your lips (in a natural way) with lip liner before you do your glossy lips.

One of the great things about glossy lips is that they can actually make your lips look bigger!

If you want to achieve this look, start by applying a small amount of gloss to your lower lip.

Then, use your finger to push the gloss up onto your upper lip. This will create the illusion of fuller lips.

Is matte or glossy lips better?

Matte or glossy lips is really a personal preference.

I’d recommend pairing your lip makeup with the rest of your makeup. For example, you might find matte lips will do better with a full glam night makeup look that you want to last all night long.

Matte lipstick tends to be long-lasting, while glossy lipsticks or lip glosses tend to need retouch more often.

If you want something in between, there are also satin lipsticks like this one from Milani.

Doing an ombre matte and glossy lips is also an option. I love to wear my matte lipstick and coat it on top with my lip gloss.

If you want to achieve a matte look, start by applying a small amount of lip balm to your lips.

Then, apply a small amount of matte lipstick to your lower lip, and then use your finger to spread it evenly across your lips.

Finally, apply a small amount of matte lipstick.

Glossy lips tend to make your lips look bigger, fuller and juicy.

If you want to achieve this look, start by applying a small amount of lip balm to your lips. Then, apply a small amount of your favorite lip gloss by following the steps we shared above.

How to avoid your glossy lips from being sticky

The key to avoiding sticky lips is to make sure that you do not apply too much gloss. Start by applying a small amount of lip balm to hydrate your lips, as always, and then apply your lipstick and/or lip gloss in layers.

Take your lip gloss and apply it only on the center of your lips, and from that, redistribute the product throughout your lips.

This will help you achieve a glossy look without making your lips too sticky.

If, even after doing that, you feel your lips sticky, you definitely need to try a glossy-effect lip tint like the ones from sheglam.

A good way to balance your makeup is by using different formulas and textures.

For example, in the next picture of my tutorial on how to wear purple eyeshadow, I’m wearing dramatic eye makeup in purple with matte eyeshadows, so I went with NUDE glossy lips (to balance the intense purple), and the gloss helps to balance the matte shades.
