My Favorite Face Powders for Mature Skin

As your skin gets older, setting powder might have become a product that you’ve tossed aside. In fact, setting powder is often deemed a poor fit for mature skin because it can oftentimes emphasize dryness or texture.

Setting powder can also leave your face looking powdery.

These are all things that you want to avoid, especially if you have mature skin.

Today, I’m highlighting my favorite setting powders for mature skin, and answering a few common questions about setting powder!

Our #1 Favorite Face powder for Mature skin is this one by It Cosmetics because it leaves the skin looking instantly younger. Adds the right coverage, it blurs pores and leaves your entire face looking smooth.

Should you use powder on mature skin?

Before I highlight a few of my favorite powders, let’s start with the obvious question. Should you even use powder on mature skin? Yes!

Not all setting powders are made equal, which means there are some that would emphasize texture and dryness, while others will hydrate your face and make it look even smoother!

Don’t let powder scare you away! Check out all of my favorites below, and get ready to rediscover the wonders of setting powder!

Is pressed or loose powder better for mature skin?

The two most common types of powder are pressed and loose powder.

While you can use both for mature skin, I recommend a pressed powder for the best results.

Pressed powders usually contain more oils and hydration, which is exactly what mature skin needs. By using a pressed powder, you can get that hydrated and refreshed look easily!

Best Setting Powders for Mature Skin

Without further ado, let’s check out a few of my favorite setting powders, and their pros and cons!

1. L’Oreal Age Perfect Powder Foundation

Pros:

  • Variety of Shades: L’Oreal’s powder has 15 different shades to choose from, ranging in tone, so there is a shade for everyone! Plus, customers love that the shades are accurate to the pictures, so no need to worry about purchasing a shade that looks drastically different in person.
  • Nourishing Formula: This powder is also crafted with a nourishing formula. It is made with a ceramide antioxidant complex and minerals which hydrate your skin!
  • Lots of Coverage: This powder also has a lot of coverage. It can cover up scars, as well as blur wrinkles and fine lines!
  • Affordable: Finding a great powder is difficult, but finding a great AFFORDABLE powder is even harder! Luckily, many customers said that this powder was even better than its high-end counterparts!

⭕️Cons:

  • Not a Cream: While L’Oreal advertises this powder as a cream-to-powder formula, many customers felt that it was a straight powder.
  • Cakey: One complaint that a few customers had was that this powder looked a bit cakey if you applied multiple layers, so make sure to apply thin layers with this powder!

2. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

Pros:

  • Long-Lasting: This setting powder will last all day long. Your makeup will stay in place no matter what you face during the day!
  • Award-Winning: A love a product that has a few awards under its belt. This setting powder has won The Knot Beauty Awards and the HelloGiggles Beauty Crush Award!
  • Anti-Aging Ingredients: This setting powder is especially great for mature skin because it has anti-aging ingredients. It is made with silk, peptides, collagen, and antioxidants!
  • Fits all Skin Tones: Since this is a translucent powder, it works for any and all skin tones!

⭕️Cons:

  • No Coverage: If you are looking for a powder with coverage, this is not the best fit for you. It is translucent, so it is crafted for setting, not adding that extra coverage that you might want.
  • Glittery: If you are not a fan of glittery makeup, keep on reading! This powder is not subtle in its sparkle, so make sure you love shimmer before buying this product.

3. Glo Skin Beauty Pressed Base

Pros:

  • Matte Finish: Powders with a matte finish are my favorite for mature skin, as they leave a gorgeous and smooth finish. This powder is no different!
  • Hydrating Ingredients: This is another powder with a few awesome ingredients. It is made with green tea, and vitamins C and E. All of these ingredients help with inflammation and work to nourish and hydrate the skin.
  • Talc-Free: Some powders contain talc, which is especially bad for mature skin. This ingredient can dry out your skin. Luckily, this formula is talc-free.
  • Extra Coverage: This triple-milled formula is created to be buildable for extra coverage that stays in place all day long!

⭕️Cons:

  • Pricy: This powder is one of the pricer options on this list, so if you are looking for a drugstore powder instead, I suggest one of the other options listed!
  • Lack of Diverse Shades: While this powder does have quite a few shades, many are for light to medium skin tones. If you have a darker skin tone, this might not be the best powder for you.

4. Covergirl Simply Ageless Pressed Powder

Pros:

  • Nourishing: As with most products on this list, this powder is formulated with  hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, which is both nourishing and hydrating ingredients.
  • Erases Pores: One of the reasons why I love this powder is because its matte formula virtually erases pores. This powder will leave your skin looking smooth and even.
  • Long-Lasting: Customers love that this powder lasts all day long!

⭕️Cons:

  • Lack of Shades: This powder only comes in 8 shades, so there are not a lot of opportunities to find a perfectly matched shade.
  • Not Formulated for Sensitive Skin: Unfortunately, if you have sensitive skin, this is not the best product for you.#5

5. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better

Pros:

  • Soft: This powder leaves your skin looking and feeling softer! Plus, it blurs pores and leaves your entire face looking smooth and supple!
  • Conceals Everything: This powder + CC cream is the ultimate concealer! If you have deep wrinkles or dark spots, this is the powder for you!
  • Lightweight: Another great feature of this powder is that it feels lightweight on your face.

⭕️Cons:

  • Not Shade-Inclusive: This powder only has one shade for darker skin tones, so this is not a good fit if you don’t have a light to medium skin tone.
  • Pricer: This is another product that is on the spendier side. While many customers say it is worth the price, if you are looking for a bargain, this is not it.

6. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Loose Setting Powder

Pros:

  • Loose Powder Option: Even though pressed powders are my go-to for mature skin, I wanted to include a couple of loose setting powders on the list for those that are a big fan of loose powders!
  • Universal Shade: Like its pressed counterpart, this powder is formulated in one universal, translucent shade that fits everyone!

⭕️Cons:

  • No Coverage: Like its pressed counterpart, this setting powder does not offer a lot of coverage. Which is something good when you just need to set your makeup and you don’t want to add more layers of coverage.

7. Aesthetica Transculent Powder

Pros:

  • Long-Lasting: This powder sets your makeup in place and keeps it in place all day long!
  • Subtle Shine: If you want a little shine, but not too much, this powder is the perfect fit! It offers a subtle sheen to make your face sparkle in the sun without looking glittery.
  • Talc-Free: This is another powder that is talc-free, which is especially good in a loose powder so you aren’t breathing in harsh chemicals!
  • Finely-Milled: This powder is also finely milled, so it doesn’t settle into pores or fine lines.

⭕️Cons:

  • Not a Baking Powder: Many customers do not recommend baking with this powder, as it will feel very chalky. But I actually do not recommend the baking technique for mature skins.
  • No Coverage: This powder will not offer any coverage, so it is not a good fit if that is what you are looking for.

8. PUR 4-in-1 Powder

Pros:

  • SPF: This powder is formulated with SPF 15, so it is perfect for protecting your skin against harmful rays!
  • Vegan: This powder is also cruelty-free and vegan!
  • Variety of Shades: There are 26 different shades for this powder ranging from fair to dark skin tones, so there is a powder for everyone!
  • Lightweight: This powder is also lightweight, so it won’t feel heavy or cakey on your face.

⭕️Cons:

  • Chalky: Some customers complained that this powder felt chalky on their faces.
  • Not for Sensitive Skin: This powder is not formulated for sensitive skin, so it could cause irritation.

9. NYX Stay Matte but Not Flat Powder

Pros:

  • Matte Finish: This powder is lightweight, buildable, and has a gorgeous matte finish!
  • Lots of Coverage: This powder is perfect if you are looking for something with a lot of coverage. Some customers even said they didn’t need a foundation with this!
  • Easy to Use: If you want a quick and easy powder that you can use in a swipe, this is the right fit for you! Customers love that it is easy to use, and doesn’t require a lot of building or blending.

⭕️Cons:

  • Drying: A few customers did complain that this powder dried their skin a little after use.
  • Not Long-Lasting: You may have to touch up this powder throughout the day, as it will not stay throughout the day.
