The under-eyes skin is super thin and delicate

(that’s why it is the first part of the face that gets wrinkles, and it gets so early),

and we need to treat it so much differently than the rest of the face.

We can’t use the same products for under eyes that we use all over the face,

and we need to apply any product with EXTRA kindness to prevent early wrinkles on that area.

Once you know that this is a super delicate area that we need to treat differently,

we are ready to start the next step.

TIP # 2. PICK THE BEST EYE CREAM (yes, different from your actual moisturizer)

In your skin-prep routine before makeup, apply your face moisturizer as usual but do not touch the under-eye area.

This area needs to be treated differently because it’s different.

It’s usually drier and needs to be well hydrated to avoid the concealer to the crease.

I have a combo/mix skin type, and while I have oiliness in my T zone, I have super dry areas like under the eyes and cheeks.

I use the Hydro boost water gel lotion by Neutrogena for my face,

and for my, under eyes, I need a thicker and more hydrating eye cream like this one:

Place a small amount of eye cream right under your under-eye area, without getting it to your cheeks.

Don’t also forget to hydrate your eyelids and all around your eyes.

This is super important to prevent early wrinkles.

TIP # 3. BEST UNDER EYE PRIMER TO PREVENT CREASING

Is this legit? Does under-eye primer really work?

So you can probably be asking if I have a face primer and eyeshadow primer,

why do I need an under-eye primer?

The truth is that under-eye primer is an essential step to prevent your concealer from settling expression lines.

Do the same as your eye cream and apply it only under your eye area,

but don’t apply it on your eyelids this time.

TIP. 4 PICK THE RIGHT CONCEALER FOR UNDER EYES

One of the reasons why we struggle with concealer to crease under the eyes is that we picked the wrong concealer for our skin and necessity.

I have a full post about this on “How to pick the right concealer,” where I share the best ways to find your perfect concealer for your skin type and skin tone.

But in general, a lightweight concealer with great coverage will do the work.

However, you also need to apply the following non-creasing concealer tips

TIP 5. BEST NON-CREASING CONCEALER

Matte full-coverage liquid concealers are great for setting it and staying in place all day without creasing!

And my favorite and TOP recommendation for everyone is the shape tape concealer by TARTE.

The lightweight formula and the full coverage that it has are amazing

Note: To make it completely a non-creasing concealer, I strongly recommend following the tips below because these full-coverage matte concealers can be too much for some dry skins.

If this is your case, opt for a hydrating formula.

I do this in winter when my skin is more likely dry than a combo.

And here is my TOP recommendation for this.

TIP #6 FORGET ABOUT CREAM CONCEALERS

The Cream concealers are incredible to cover dark circles or any other targeting spot,

and they have the best full coverage for sure.

However, They tend to be super creasing and caking on the skin, and we don’t want that on under the eyes.

So, stay away from cream concealers for that specific area.

TIP#7. APPLY YOUR FOUNDATION THE RIGHT WAY

A common mistake is to take your foundation to the under-eye area.

This is totally OK, ONLY, IF you plan not to use concealer.

I mostly do this when I apply a sheer coverage foundation for a natural-looking makeup look.

But if you want to apply foundation and concealer,

I recommend you not to take your foundation to your under eyes

This is because you will only be applying extra layers of makeup, and this will cause your concealer to crease and look cakey.

TIP #8. APPLY YOUR CONCEALER THE RIGHT WAY

I have to admit that I love to apply a lot of liquid concealer for extreme full coverage and then blend it with my beauty blender.

And this is perfect for a special occasion or a full coverage glam Makeup look!

But for the everyday makeup routine? It’s definitively a NO-NO.

Apply a small amount of liquid concealer on your under eyes but without touching the lashes line.

We don’t want to add layers of makeup that aren’t necessary, preventing cakey-skin on the lines under lashes.

I do it like this:

TIP #9. BLEND YOUR CONCEALER IMMEDIATELY

Don’t be like me and take some pictures while you have concealer in your under eyes (haha).

Blend your concealer right after the application,

so you prevent the concealer from drying, but blend it while it is still moist,

and you can place it in the right spot and with the desired coverage.

We want to build the coverage with a super thin layer of product because less product is fewer chances of this product crease.

LESS IS MORE.

TIP #10 LET THE CONCEALER SIT

Now let your concealer sit and crease on those lines for you while you are doing the rest of your makeup.

This could be about 10-15 minutes,

so we ensure the concealer can settle down on those areas, so we can now fix it.

TIP # 11 BLEND THE CREASES

Next, after we finish our Makeup, it’s time to get back to those under eyes and see if the concealer crease or get cakey.

If so, it’s the right moment to take our makeup sponge and press the sponge on the lines to remove the excess concealer.

We need this step to avoid getting the creasing concealer during the day.

Basically, we prevent this from happening because we do not set with powder before the creasing.

A common mistake is to set it with powder right after concealer application.

How to stop concealer from creasing under eyes?

DO NOT APPLY POWDER until your concealer sits on the creases so you can remove the excess.

TIP #12. SET WITH TRANSLUCENT POWDER

I love powder foundation!

I love to use a sheer coverage foundation, and my fit me powder foundation to add another layer of coverage and set the makeup simultaneously

However, We don’t want to do that for our under-eyes.

PRO TIP: Do what I call the QUICK BAKING technique, which consists of applying a considerable amount of translucent powder with your beauty blender and basically “bake” your under eyes. But immediately take a fluffy powder brush and remove the excess powder.

I use the rest of the powder also to set my makeup.

This technique will set your concealer to prevent creasing but without adding more layers of products to your skin so it won’t look cakey.

TIP#13 APPLY SETTING SPRAY

And the final touch is to take your makeup sponge and add it setting spray,

then press carefully on your under eyes to set everything we have done.

That way, we keep all the products in place all day long!

AND WE ARE READY! This is the final result

Final thoughts on how to prevent concealer from creasing under the eyes

I’m super confident that this non-creasing concealer routine will improve the appearance of your under eyes.

I have tested this technique over and over again, and when I don’t follow these steps, the cakey and dry concealer under my eyes comes back again!
